TAKE ONE: QUICK LINKS

TAKE TWO: GEAR HIGHLIGHT

I'm selfishly holding the Take Two section this week.

My upcoming plugin release PhaseLock is now in private, invite-only beta.

What does it do? One of our testers summed it up really well in an email to me yesterday:

As a member of this Take Three email community I wanted you to have access to it. Let me know what you like and don't like.

I haven't said this anywhere else yet, but I'm aiming for an October 1 release.

Last thing I'll say about it for now: I'm looking for folks in my network to help with the release by creating content about your honest review of the plugin. Willing to compensate you for the right fit. If that sounds fun, hit reply and let's talk!

TAKE THREE: WHAT WOULD DOLLY DO?

The passing of music legend Dolly Parton is objectively the biggest news in music this week.

My client/friend Ben Rector made a really sharp observation on Instagram. He noted that people from all walks of life universally loved Dolly, and in a world of tribes and polarization, how rare that is!

Dolly was both unapologetically herself and uniquely graceful at approaching sensitive cultural moments.

As I'm writing this -- I started trying to compile and fact check all the examples I could remember of her charitable contributions (Hurricane Helene recovery / children's vaccinations / Tennessee wildfire victim support / her Imagination Library program, etc.) and the list was literally too long for this email.

She had a humorous and easy-going way of moving through the world and always supported musicians, songwriters, and anyone who she noticed needing a hand.

As someone who has directly benefited from her generosity, I hope to leave behind even 1% of the legacy she did. So when I'm dealing with mix clients or answering questions about one of my plugins or even talking to local stagehands -- I'm going to try to ask myself "What would Dolly do?"

Until next week, happy music making, Reader.
